The kids were extremely thrilled with the experience of the wildlife sanctuary, and when they came to know that there is a national park as well in Mizoram, they were after us to cancel visit to other sites to have a view at this national park. After their much persistence, we decided to go to the Phawngpui National Park, which was around 230 km from the city of Aizawl. So next day, we left for the Sangau village, which is the nearest settlement to Phawngpu. Learning from our previous experiences of distance travel, we left the hotel early in the morning, with some eateries packed with us.
The highest peak in Mizoram, Phawngpui or more renowned as the Blue Mountain, is the highest peak in the region of place. It is positioned close to the south-eastern border of the state from where it seems to overlook the bend of the grand Chhimtuipui River and the other hill ranges of Myanmar.
After reaching the place, we realized that it was all bounded by steep precipices and cliffs, amongst which, hill named as Thlazuang Kham is the most extravagant. We started trekking a little, and the kids were already in the feel of mountaineering .The breeze was blowing through our hair, and the ridge was a beautiful garden of numerous flowering trees such as orchids, sprinkling their various hues. What was most amazing was the mesmerizing view of the blue colored hills that were spreading in the horizon.
Phawngpui is declared a national park as it is surrounded by diverse flora and fauna extending to an area of around 50 square kilometers. My kids had already started trekking with my husband, and I was lagging behind adoring the serene beauty around me. It was the most exciting view of Mizoram for me. Suddenly, one of the kids pointed at something and we could see the gorals that were grazing peacefully in the sloppy terrain. There were attracting sunbirds that were looking more striking amid the beautiful flowers.
Phawngpui is also a habitat to a remarkable range of birdlife and endangered mammals. We were fortunate to get glimpses of a few. That was a wonderful experience of the entire trip.
