The greed for the sightseeing was endless in me. Being a lawyer professionally there were many constraints in my way of fun and enjoyment. But I always try to take out time and catch up with the heritage and history inspired books for some amusements. While going through one of them I came across the descriptive picture of one of the most prominent mosques of Asia, the Taj-ul-Masjid Bhopal. The very description and its fine beauty decorated with white colored dome minarets make it amazing. It is undoubtedly a real treat for anybody. Thus its splendid thoughts provoked me to visit the place with curiosity and anxiousness. This pink edifice, spread across a sprawling campus, thus imposing ‘dome of Allah’, is surely the most attractive tourists’ place of Bhopal.
It has been said that initially the construction could not be established due to lack of fund, but years later with the strong initialization of Allama Mohammad Imran Khan Nadwi Azhari, it was successfully been built in the year 1971. A gorgeously ornated, rambling mosque was undoubtedly the result of hard work and sincere efforts. It has a pleasing appeal living up to the expectations of the visitors. The calmness and the fine engravings of the mosque drove me into the world of stillness and relaxation. My motto of visiting the place was accomplished and the same was the effect on my family.
I could find a number of similarities in this mosque with that of one in Old Delhi known as Jama Masjid and one in Lahore, Badshahi Mosque powerfully reflecting the grandiosity of Mughal architecture in terms of its construction. This mosque serves as a ‘Madrasah’ during the daytime. Apart from three huge domes round in shape, marble floorings, two eighteen storied minarets and a wonderful prayer hall decorated with beautiful pillars, there is a courtyard possessing a centrally located big tank. The engravings with latticework and sunken curves on prayer hall’s main wall are again highly appreciable.
To sum up I can say that Taj-ul-masjid Bhopal has its remarkable history and an enduring effort has been put to build in. The place is known for its beautiful architecture, which is a true specimen of Mughal taste and style. In fact it represents itself as the biggest landmark of Bhopal. By the time we completed our expedition for the day, we were almost tired and on the verge of fainting. So I decided to put a halt for the day and to get back to my luxurious hotel seeking rest and comfort. No matter where I move on for the whole day, I ensure to give my quality time for the yoga and meditation to bring myself some inner peace.
